Social impact team is part of the Responsible Sourcing function that sits within the Global Sourcing organization. The main objective of the social impact team is to support responsible sourcing in terms of implementing social impact and social responsibility strategies based on risk and impact assessment, and develop clear and measurable targets to achieve progress. The social impact team works closely with manufacturers, worker representatives, and national and international stakeholders with a focus on securing workers’ rights and factory conditions through workers' empowerment. Key focus areas include regional occupational health and safety, social welfare, freedom of association, social dialogue at factory and industry levels, worker empowerment, wages and financial systems, responsible purchasing practices, and others.
ABOUT ROLE
As a key member of the Social Impact Team at BESTSELLER, the responsible sourcing gender lead collaborates closely with both the social impact manager and the head of responsible sourcing. In this role, the responsible sourcing gender lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the gender strategy within factories that produce for BESTSELLER and adjacent communities.
The responsible sourcing gender lead will focus on driving positive social impact through meaningful stakeholder engagement and strategic program development. These efforts are specifically aimed at addressing gender identity-related human rights risks identified in the Human Rights Risk Management Strategy. As part of their responsibilities, the responsible sourcing gender lead will ensure that the Social Impact team remains accountable to relevant targets and strategy, monitors progress, and effectively represents BESTSELLER in various forums.
Additionally, the responsible sourcing gender lead will work closely with the Communication Specialist to enhance transparency and develop robust internal and external communication plans.
More specifically, the responsible sourcing gender lead role includes:
- Implement gender gender-responsive human rights due diligence framework that is structured in accordance with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct, and related strategies across multiple sourcing countries
- Conduct gender related human rights risk assessment across multiple sourcing countries through meaningful stakeholder engagement, identify areas of improvement, and map potential solutions. Key focus areas included in the gender framework are health & wellbeing, prevention of gender-based violence, voice & leadership, enabling environment, and financial independence.
- Develop internal capacity of head office and regional offices on understanding the concept of gender, its associated risks, and how to effectively carry out gender responsive human rights due diligence
- Develop internal capacity of suppliers and factories on understanding the concept of gender, its associated risks, and how to effectively carry out gender responsive human rights due diligence
- Work with national and international stakeholders (unions, NGOs, governments, etc) on implementing, and where necessary developing, interventions at factory and community levels that address key focus areas included in the gender framework.
- Contribute to the development of industry solutions that enable systemic change at the regional level
- Set, monitor, and report on yearly targets under the gender framework for internal and external communication purposes
- Manage (set, monitor, report) approved budget for implementation of the gender framework
- Represent BESTSELLER’s interests in relevant multistakeholder initiatives
- Support the global responsible sourcing team in the strategic development and implementation of worker wellbeing programmes
Required qualifications:
- At least 3 years of experience of working with gender related topics within international garment supply chains
- In-depth knowledge of OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct
- In-depth experience of implementing gender responsive human rights due diligence across countries like Bangladesh, India, Turkiye, China, Cambodia, Pakistan, Vietnam
- Significant practical experience in agile project management
- Significant experience in the design of factory and community level programmes in collaboration with external stakeholders and service providers
- Educational background in topics relevant to social sustainability, social engineering, gender norms, or similar
- Inter-cultural communication and leadership
- Fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and presenting in English
